La noche de anoche

Voltiando a la musica...

Desde hace algunas semanas tengo un CD dando vueltas en mi carro el ultimo trabajo de MOBY de titulo "Last Night".

Nunca suelo tener más de 3 CDs en el carro a un mismo tiempo y siempre alguno es favorito. Este es el que se queda dentro del CD player y cuando enciendo el carro siempre esta ahi, sonando. Casi siempre llega un momento cuando me llego a fastidiar y busco algo nuevo para oir y esa es, en esencia, el ciclo musical de mi vida. Mi SoundTrack.

Pero MOBY pocas veces me molesta. De él he coleccionado canciones desde 1996 ("Common Baby" de "Animal Rights"), luego vino el exitoso "Play" del 99 (con la peculiaridad que sus 18 canciones fueron usadas como pistas publicitarias por una que otra marca), "18" en el 2002 y "Hotel" en el 2005.

Ese año 2005, si mal no recuerdo en Noviembre, tuve la oportunidad de verlo en vivo en el hipódromo de La Rinconada gracias a un evento de Nokia Trends y Digitel. Era la gira de "Hotel" y era curioso porque siempre tuve la imagen del Moby productor y DJ, pero este album en particular fue concebido, grabado y recreado en tour con una banda. Mucha fuerza vocal y guitarras destacaban sobre instrumentos clásicos para él como teclados y batería (la base del sampling).

En "Last Night", Moby vuelve a sus orígenes de pistas de dancefloor / Rave. Se comenta que el disco suena a ecos del pasado de "Play". y Si, pero no por esto es descartable. El es honesto cuando coloca en el librillo del CD la siguiente nota:

"i started going out in new york city in the early 80´s. my friends and i would get on the train and sneak into manhattan and go to the mudd club and peppermint lounge and the fallout shelter and danceteria and CB´s and a-7 and the ritz. we´d stayout until 7 a.m and then sneak back to connecticut on th emetro-nort train, sometimes getting back to darien in time for high school. i honestly don´t think that a week has gone in the last 25 years that i haven´t gone out to a bar or a nightclub or a house party. Sometimes to dance, sometimes to dj, sometimes to drink, sometimes just to be lost in an ocean of other people at 3 a.m. maybe that´s depressing to you, i don´t know, i think it´s fantastic. daytime is nice. you can see things. birds are out. people are at work. but nighttime is, simply, better. people look better at night.things are more interesting. you can hide better. you can get lost more easily. and music is different at night.this album is about going out (in nyc and anywhere else). it´s me trying to condense an 8 hour night into just over an hour of music. a night out can ideally contain a multitude of experiences, from the celebratory to the despairing to the comforting to the frightening to the conventional to the trascendent. very simply, to me this record sounds like a night out in new york, with all the sex and the weirdness and the disorientation and the celebration and the compelling chaos. if you´re out some night in nyc i´m sure we´ll run into each other. see, i go out way too much and i always have." (SIC).

Como ven, no pretende ser "Last Night" un album de los que rompen esquemas presentando nuevas tendencias. Es simplemente la conceptualizacion de lo que representa la modernidad musical de la rumba neoyorquina". Eso hace de este disco un "must-have".

En particular, me gusta mucho el track 6 "Alice". El ritmo, unido a la voz de la colaboración de Aynzli Jones suena mucho a los trabajos de Shifty y Epic de "Crazy Town". Una canción de vértigo, tipo 3 am. Este fue el primer single del disco:
